Here are a few simple tips to make healthy decisions and be good to yourself – after all, we all deserve to live the healthiest, happiest lives we can.
1. Enjoy eating well by introducing variety in your diet. Fruits, vegetables, low fat meats and whole grains all play a very important part in your overall nutrition.
2. Eat breakfast. It can be as simple as a quick slice of whole grain bread or a muffin or if time permits, a poached or scrambled egg. You can also indulge in last night’s left-overs for a quick and delicious start to your day. Be creative.
3. Eat in moderation and be sensible about it. Remember, it is ok to have a treat once in a while, just don’t make it part of your regular diet.
4. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep you hydrated and energized.
5. Keep energized by having healthy snacks available to you at work. Some simple and delicious snacks are raw almonds, carrots and hummus and fresh fruit.
6. Control your portion sizes. Try using a salad plate instead at dinner. After you are finished eating, wait 5-10 minutes… if you are still hungry, half fill up your salad plate again with mostly vegetables.
7. Watch your caffeine intake. Try drinking decaffeinated herbal teas.
8. Choose healthy fast food choices, such as salads or wraps.
9. Choose high quality vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure you are getting the correct balance of these essential nutrients to maintain and enhance your overall health.
10. Remember, healthy doesn’t have to be boring, just pick and add the right flavours like vanilla, ginger, garlic and other spices and herbs.
11. Keep active. Walk when you can and have a time set aside for exercise. You will feel better for it.
Create good habits by eating right and staying physically active…. And you can be sure you’ll feel the results.
